Expedition Tragedy 4

A Meny University research expedition returned in tragedy from the northern continent on Opal with only four of the original twelve member team still alive.  Team leader Dr. Walter Hunt refused to comment on the details of the trip and on the deaths of the team members. "It's all too soon, all too tragic." Said Dr. Hunt.  Unconfirmed reports from the university indicate that Dr. Hunt and his team ran afoul of a prison gang and had to be rescued. No other information was immediately forthcoming. -Sara Bryant, SCL 7C, Third Eye News

MORT CARRIEN LOTTO,
A CHANCE AT TWO MILLION UNIS

Since it's beginning two months ago, no one has won the MCL jackpot, which is over 2 million Unis. Even with Craig the Carrien killing everyone in lane 4, no one has landed on this life time opportunity.
Craig seems to be wanting to get in on the action, as seen last week when he killed his shooter and found a ticket.  Craig promptly ate the ticket though, dashing his chances at winning. -Craig Magee, SCL 7D, Mort Times

HOSPITAL PATIENT ASSASSINATED

An unidentified patient was assassinated this weekend, in what was reported as a bloody, terrorist style attack at Mort General Hospital.  The victim was the only patient on the hospital's top floor, where the attack was made.  SHIVERS and Monarch Police released a joint statement today, saying they were following several leads on the case, but they declined to name any suspects.  A White BPN was also release regarding this crime, though who was assigned the BPN is unknown at this time.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Each week we look at one of many people who live and work in the World of Progress.

This Week: The Fanzine Editor

RS: Name?
MB: Max Bantleman

RS: How long have you been an editor of tHE bIG pICTURE?
MB: Since it's birth five years ago. Before that with Flames of Albion and Esprit de Corps.

RS: What do you enjoy most as the editor?
MB: Well, editor is probably the wrong description. I write it and gather stuff up from other people. There's so much good stuff out there, it doesn't actually take much editing.

RS: Ok, what do you hate most?
MB: Photocopying. Definitely. Sam does most (all) of it now, and thank gawd I say. That and the struggle to get people in the WoP to actually buy the thing. The indifference from the fan base that uses electronic media is partially understandable, as so many of them say, why pay for material when there is so much posted electronically free.

RS: What is the most difficult past of being the editor?
MB: Getting stuff from people that really isn't written very well. The germ of the idea may be pure gold, and the development leaps off the page at you, but the stuff needs such a huge re-write that it's easier
to start from scratch. Also, being a fanzine dedicated to a sort of 'dead' system and having no real encouragement from any 'official' source.

RS: Is there anything else you'd like to say?
MB: Yeah! Buy the flippin' thing! What do people want? I'd say a fanzine written by the dedicated fan base that exists on the web would be a great idea. But having stuff up on home pages and other media, seems to take away peoples urge to get it out there to a wider potential audience. I would like to see a debate around the availability of fan produced material, the quality is high, it's usually well play tested and it's done for the love not the money, so the originating company seldom loses any money from potential sales etc.

RS: Thank you for your time
MB: You're more than welcome. I'll talk to anyone.

1)  tHE bIG pICTURE, is an awesome fanzine.  If you haven't bought yours, what are you waiting for?  Maybe hoping for a visit by Cloak for this subversive act of not buying this superior product?

3)  The Jade Garden ad, found in the Mort Times, Vol. 10, was created by Craig Magee.  The story line is mine however.

4)  The planet Opal, is a prison planet that was one someone's website, many moons ago.  I still never got the map for it :(  Anyways, I'd like to credit the person for their work, who ever it was.
